I agree with the sentiment in this supposed quote by Bill Nye the Science Guy, and I’m more than reasonably sure that he believes the same thing, but this is not him saying it, and this is definitely not the language that he would use. I find it ridiculously offensive to claim that Bill Nye would use language like “idiot” and “retarded” to refer to another human being, especially coming from someone who likely knows and has worked with a lot of children with special needs.
This came from a satirical website, not from the mouth of Bill Nye. This is why it’s important to source things properly, something that even I have issues with. Everyone has issues with it on Tumblr and Facebook. I mean, okay, let’s not go overboard and source every weird picture of a dog making cupcakes, but if it’s an image that is quoting a celebrity like this, I think it’s important to source the origin of the image, so after the laughter has died down, at least we can easily verify that it was a joke and not an “actual” quote. Frankly, it wasn’t that funny; it made me sad that one of my childhood heroes would use language like this.

So um, if you “agree with this sentiment” and don’t call out the “fucking r*****ed” part, I’m going to ask you to unfollow me now. I’m a little bit on the fence re: the superfluous use of the word “idiot”, but in general, not ok with that one, either.
Just saying.
